About Us

The MurthyNAYAK Foundation is a family foundation, not a public charity. It is funded by the family and does not solicit or rely on public donations. It operates with no paid employees or administrative overhead. As a result, 100% of all funds are directed to deserving projects and initiatives.

Sheela Murthy: Founder and president of the Murthy Law Firm, Sheela Murthy earned her Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School and is admitted to practice law in New York, Maryland, and before the U.S. Supreme Court. The Murthy Law Firm supports U.S. companies in maintaining America’s global leadership by working with businesses, universities, hospitals, and nonprofit organizations to fill critical talent gaps and strengthen their workforce.

In addition to her professional achievements, Sheela Murthy is widely recognized for her philanthropy. Through the MurthyNAYAK Foundation, she is generous with both financial support and her time. She serves on numerous boards, contributing her leadership and business acumen to strengthen nonprofit and community organizations. She is also an entrepreneur and a sought-after public speaker.

Vasant Nayak: Vasant earned his BA in anthropology and MA in photography. He taught photography and art in the U.S. and has exhibited is work internationally. Vasant currently works in marketing consulting. This is balanced with the work he does to help nonprofit and NGO partners promote their organizations through media, such as websites, books, films, and more. He is also a fine-arts photographer and has self-published several books of his work.  He is on the Board of Trustees of the Aperture Foundation in NYC. He is the founder of PhotoSouthAsia, a platform that supports photography in the region.

Shay Taylor: With ten years of fine arts education, Shay earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore. It has been her skills in writing and digital design, however, that have made the Murthy Law Firm her work home since 1998. Shay loves photography and drawing, but is as comfortable at a computer keyboard or French easel. She adores traveling – especially internationally – and India holds a special place in her heart. She is a distinguished volunteer thoroughly dedicated to the work of the MurthyNAYAK Foundation and contributes time and expertise generously, often beyond formal expectations, to ensure the Foundation’s success.
